Programs encouraging men’s participation in governance and social accountability

Leadership Training and Civic Engagement Workshops

CLP provides comprehensive leadership training to men, focusing on their roles in governance and social accountability. These workshops equip participants with the knowledge to engage in civic duties, understand governance structures, and advocate for their communities effectively.

Participatory Governance Initiatives:

Through participatory governance programs, men are encouraged to join town hall meetings, engage in budget planning, and monitor the implementation of community projects. These initiatives foster a culture of accountability and ensure that community resources are used effectively.

Community Accountability Forums:

CLP organizes forums where men can discuss local governance issues, share experiences, and propose solutions. These forums are designed to strengthen men’s involvement in social accountability and empower them to hold local leaders accountable for their actions.

Gender Equity and Inclusive Leadership:

CLP’s programs emphasize the importance of gender equity in governance. Men are trained on the value of inclusive leadership, where both men and women contribute to decision-making processes. This approach promotes a more balanced and representative governance structure.

Economic Empowerment and Governance:

Recognizing the link between economic stability and civic participation, CLP integrates economic empowerment initiatives with governance training. Men are provided with resources and support to enhance their livelihoods, enabling them to participate more actively in governance and community development.

Impact and Success Stories

MR. LANRE AREOLA

My joining the Community Life Project (CLP) was not by accident. I see it as a divine calling. I was involved in the activities of the organization for 19 eventful years. During this period, CLP shaped my worldviews on various topical issues. CLP has significantly helped in changing some of the traditional harmful misconceptions I had before my engagement, especially regarding Female Genital Mutilation.

On the professional level, CLP molded my views and ability to constructively critique issues before making decisions. The most memorable aspect of the work for me is seeing how our grassroots partners and vulnerable groups are treated as real human beings, with respect and dignity, whenever they are with us. This has remained an integral part of my life, even after my disengagement from the organization.

I also gained on-the-job experience, especially in dealing with the many challenges faced by those responsible for implementing development programs. This experience has been invaluable in both my professional and personal endeavors.

At the moment, I am on the verge of obtaining a Master's degree in Project Management after many years of professional engagement with CLP. This academic pursuit will provide me with advanced knowledge in the development field. I thank CLP for laying the foundation.

I wish Community Life Project a happy 30th Anniversary celebration and many more years of service to humanity.

Mr. Nelson Peter Ayilaran

My experience with ReclaimNaija started 12 years ago as a youth participant in their programmes. First and foremost, I want to appreciate the management for taking the bull by the horn when it comes to addressing development issues in Nigeria, particularly in my home state of Ekiti.

Community Life Project and ReclaimNaija have made a significant impact not only in Ekiti State but across Nigeria.

I have actively participated in ReclaimNaija’s initiatives, including monitoring elections in Nigeria. Through their efforts, ReclaimNaija has successfully sensitized communities on the importance of active participation during elections, emphasizing the need to vote wisely for candidates who prioritize grassroots development.

ReclaimNaija remains deeply engaged with the events shaping our nation.

Congratulations to CLP on its 30th Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!

ReclaimNaija has truly been an eye-opener in many ways, especially as this year marks 10 years of our partnership with the platform. CLP and ReclaimNaija have positively impacted my life, the people of Ekiti State, and many citizens of this great nation, Nigeria. What once seemed like darkness has been unveiled through the series of workshops, where we learned the following:

We learned about our rights and roles as citizens. We understood that we are not just ordinary voters but part of the government, responsible for determining its success or failure.

In the area of national projects, we were made aware of our role in such projects. Issues like allocations from the Federal Government to State and Local Governments became transparent, both in figures and value. We also realized it is our responsibility to monitor projects in our locality to ensure that quality work is done. We were taught that, as citizens, we have the right to participate in local government budgeting. If elected representatives at the Federal, State, and Local government levels are not meeting their responsibilities, we have the right to recall them or vote them out in subsequent elections.

Through CLP's financial backing, we were able to organize a series of Town Hall meetings to sensitize the people in our locality. We also conducted in-depth interviews across towns and villages, working with Monarchs, Chiefs, Youths, Farmers, Women, Artisans, Persons with Disabilities, Schools, and Health Centers, in partnership with community volunteers and local government officials. We asked the community members about their needs and the projects they require from the Federal, State, and Local governments. This exercise helped us understand the people's needs and expectations from their governments, making it easier to demand services from the government.

On behalf of the people of Ise/Orun communities, I say to CLP: Congratulations on the celebration of your 30th Anniversary. I wish Community Life Project many more productive years.
